| I do not understand anything about the world. If Simon had left me, I would surely have died in that valley. I do not want my father to kill them, but I do not want them to kill my father, either. My father is the only family I have ever known. There are no other princesses, and I never met my mother. But Simon and his friends should not have to suffer or be afraid. They should be allowed to see the sunlight. I had never seen it, or felt the dirt or the rain before I woke up there. They are kind and generous and they have taught me many things, even after learning that I am their enemy's daughter. His armies have killed one of their dearest friends and I have never seen Simon smile. I have never seen Yoko or Kittan smile, either. If my father has killed their friends as they believe, then he has done something terribly wrong. But I cannot believe that he would hurt these people with no reason. |
